Week 3 Sci-fi / Scale

This weeks assignment was to make a sci-fi image and try to make it have scale. It's still in B&W with a full value range.

Week 2 Class

This week it's all about lighting with curves and perspective (so structures). I played with some atmosphere changes as well.

CGMW Environment Class Week 1

We just started out this week so I haven't gotten any crits yet but I thought I'd post in tandem with the class. This week was do 5 B&W thumbs to see where we are at. So here they are, I'll post updates as they come.

Magnet Bot

I thought I'd update an idea I had a while ago with a magnetic robot. I thought it might be cool if it was more like a monkey that was able control the polarization of magnetic power. Having the ability to push or pull objects as well as himself.

Xayide Orthograph

Here's the ortho of Xayide, the painting I posted before this one. I made some design changes that made more sense to me, like simplifying the dress so it's less distracting. I added more details to back in case you play her in 3rd person. I was also thinking of the animation of the cloth and hair jewelry as well as the way the shoulder blade plate scallops to allow more motion when raising her arms.

CGMW Character class

I've been taking a character design from Izzy through CGMW and here are some of the latest assignments from that class. I'd like to make some changes to the final piece here, when the class slows down or I find some time otherwise. I'll be posting more of my assignments as I get farther in.

Dreamscape Final

I'm almost there on this one. After talking to a friend about conflict in an image, (ty Law) I decided to go with a little girl in the scene to balance the evil in the plant creature. I polished this up a bit and submitted it to CG Society.

Dreamscape B&W Comp

I've still got a good amount of work do on this yet but I feel it's getting there nicely. I'm going to fix some contrast issues with the background. As well as fixing edges and general polish. Then I'll get to adding color.

I'm working on a couple things on the side right now but I'm trying to focus on the "Dreamscape" contest on CG Society. Here's my quick and sloppy thumbs to try to find some interesting and spark an idea. I decided on the top one because I could envision it the best. I'll post my progress on it soon.

Watercolors at the Locks

I've been wanting to get out and paint at the locks for a while but never got to it until now. I'm starting with tonal studies then I'll move on to color soon. Watercolors are still kinda foreign to me but with time I think I'll get use to painting this way. I like how I have to be deliberate with my brush strokes. It's nice to just "nut up or shut up" when painting. :)

Fly Fighter

I thought it funny to see a robot, that was programmed to fight, combat a fly... and lose. This is my first take on that.

Robot Sketches

These are a few sketches for an idea of a game about playing with magnet pulls. The aesthetic isn't quite there yet. It doesn't match based on the story I was think of, so I'll keep at it.

Letting sleeping cats lie

The big cats at the local zoo appear to sleep as much as the average house cat- which, as we all know, is almost all the time. I interpreted the shapes from both what I could see and what I know from other studies.

Coffee Time

Here's some character sketches of people at the coffee shop. I was feeling uninspired on a couple of these so I didn't push them as far as I could have. I'll be working to add more character next time.

Animal Sketches

I did some drawings at the zoo to figure out their shapes, then exploited the shapes while trying to keep the look of the animal. The one in black & white was a study from life and the red ones are the ones I pushed.

I plan to do more of these type of sketches. I had so much fun with these.
